Besom
- Sweeping away suffering
The Besom exists at
the heart of Camps Bay United Church (CBUC) to provide every
believer with a practical, fun, safe and relational way of
bridging the gap between those who have something to give and
those who are in need.
If you have a heart response to what God tells us in the Bible
about reaching out to those in need, then the Besom at Camps Bay
will give you a conduit to reach that need. With an emphasis on
relationship building and giving practical help of a high
quality, the Besom will use your time, things, talents and money
to make a lasting difference in peoples’ lives.
In its first year the Besom provided over 250 individualized
boxes to people in need. These boxes consist of clothing items
which are hand selected by size and according to the colour
preference of the candidate we are packing for. Sometimes the
candidates are people in our own church family or others in need
in the Camps Bay and surrounding areas. The Besom supports the
following ministries:- the Ark, New Life, Africa Jam and some
projects even further afield (clothes went to a housing project
in Zambia). We long to see the vision grow! Even though the
Besom is the ministry of the church, it is also a ministry to
the church!
There are so many ways in which Besom can help you make a
difference:

but will bless someone else |

approach retail contacts that you may have to
give of their excess stock |

organize for your home group or any group of
interested Christians to spend time at the Besom
packing boxes, delivering boxes or spending a
weekend day doing a Besom project (which could
include painting and decorating a facility or
providing a service at one of the ministries we
support) |

collect good quality empty boxes to be used for
gift boxes |
|
۰ |
wash or mend items from the Besom storeroom that
need a bit of attention before they go out to
bless others |

۰ |
pray at the Besom for God to be in control and
to make miraculous matches between what has been
donated and what has been requested |

become involved in creatively sharing the Besom
vision with CBUC and other churches |
